Age 78, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at home surrounded by her devoted husband and dear friends. Vera is survived by husband Louis of nearly 40 years (May 10, 1975), Stepson John Malevitis, brother Daniel (Jean) Yankovich, nephew Mark Yankovich, nieces Linda (Phillip) Ford and Danielle (Jonathan) Klotzbach, and several great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Etella (nee Janota) Yankovich, sister Ethel Yankovich and brother Andrew Yankovich. Vera was born March 9, 1936 in Whiting, IN and moved to Hegewisch at an early age. She was a 1952 graduate of Bowen High School. She was employed by Dr. Rak, DDS, The 5th Army for 10 years, then Globe Industries where she retired after 25 years in 1994. Vera was a life-long member of Lebanon Lutheran Church where, through the many years she was the Church Secretary, Sunday School Teacher, Church Council member and active in Church Women United and Women of ELCA. She loved her Church and was a great presence at many functions and behind the scenes. She was proud of her Slovak Heritage and traditions. Vera also was a supporter of the Humane Society, World Wild Life Society, a huge Blackhawks Fan, and a strong fighter against the Hegewisch Airport. Vera will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
