James R. Hollems, a distinguished individual who left an indelible mark on hearts of his loved ones, passed on Saturday, June 22, 2024 in Hegewisch. Born on January 11, 1932, he led a life filled with love, honor, and service.
He peacefully departed from this world at home, surrounded by the warmth of his family's love. James is survived by his beloved children: Sharon (Jim) Akers, Debra (Gregg) Aiello, Cindy (Jeff) VerHaar, Kathryn (Shawn) Mitchell, Billy Hollems and the late Jenny Hollems; and stepsons: Daniel (Wendy) Nagle, Michael (Colleen) Nagle, and John Nagle. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren - Johnny Nagle, Jason (Molly) Nagle, Ryan (Kyle) Nagle, Adam (Sara) Nagle, Josh (Matti) Nagle, Michael Nagle and many. He was a proud great grandfather of A.J. Nagle, Rosa Nagle and many. He was also a kind uncle to many. In the hearts of those who knew him best, James will always be cherished as a devoted husband to the late Lora Marlene (Nagle) Hollems. His parents, William and Eula, were fortunate to have him as their son. James found immense joy in the company of Suzy, the beloved dog who brought laughter and companionship into his life. Their unspoken connection was a testament to the profound impact animals can have on our souls, offering comfort in times of need and unwavering loyalty until the very end.
James proudly and honorably served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, embodying dedication and sacrifice for his country. His commitment to duty was a testament to his character and valor. His life was a beautiful tapestry of love and memories that will be forever treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him. James R. Hollems will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
