Helen D. Dafnis (nee Nikolaou)

April 9, 1933 — November 16, 2024

Helen Dafnis, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at home in Hegewisch on November 16, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Corinth, Greece, Helen was one of six siblings in a close-knit family. Her journey took her across the world, but her heart was always grounded in the warmth of her Greek heritage and the love she had for her family and faith.

Her love for family was boundless. She adored her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and never missed a chance to spoil them with her big hugs and her famous Greek cuisine. These are fond memories that will live on, forever. Helen cherished her peaceful morning coffee time with her children, where they would share stories and laughter.

A woman of deep faith, Helen was a dedicated member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church (Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America) in Chicago (Hegewisch), IL. She was active in the Philoptochos Society and adored the fellowship of her church family.

Though Helen lost her beloved Dimitrious far too soon, she carried his memory with her every day. Now, they are reunited, along with her parents, Aristidis and Despina, and her siblings.

Helen leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience in her children: Despina (Andrea), Kathy (Jim), and George (Corey), her eleven grandchildren and twenty four great-grandchildren. Her warmth, wisdom, and grace will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

May her memory be eternal and may the love she gave so freely continue to inspire us all.
